Tsumami zaiku is a traditional Japanese craft that was born during the Edo period. It has been designated a Traditional Craft of Tokyo. A piece of cloth that has been cut into a square shape is folded with a pair of tweezers, and with the help of starch paste it is made into various shapes like plants or animals.

LITTLE TSUMAMI, managed by tsumami zaiku artisan Kokaze Saito, aims to do decorations, interior design, modern art, as well as art guidance, that both men and women can enjoy, by utilizing tsumami zaiku, which is a “wonderful Japanese craft that beautifully expresses beautiful things”, which has been around since very long time ago.

Tsumami zaiku is a is a very loved craft abroad, where it is known as “kanzashi”. Kanzashi is not made up of only Japanese products, but there are also products from makers who have been inspired by tsumami zaiku. Especially in Russia and Indonesia, Kanzashi has shown unique development, with plenty of very unique products appearing one after another.

In contrast to how much tsumami zaiku has spread and gained popularity abroad, it is not that well-known in Japan.

We think that is because until now it has just been known as a beautiful object that women use when they dress up.

LITTLE TSUMAMI tries to further spread tsumami zaiku inside and outside Japan by utilizing all the potential it has in many different ways.
